Description: The Irish Collegiate Programming Contest 2012 is a contest that took place in University College Cork, Ireland. The contest was to solve 8 problems in just 4 hours. The team who scored the most points (i.e. solved the most problems) won the competition. There were 28 teams in our category (undergraduate) and 5 teams in the postgraduate category. In the undergraduate category, teams were made up of programmers and mathematicians from 2nd – 4th years.

We were a team of second years, and it was our first time entering it. We managed to solve 3 out of the 8 problems. To put that in perspective, the winning team solved 6, but there were some teams that were unable to solve any at all. I believe the average out of the contest was 2 out of 8 (but don’t quote me on that). Our mentors have had experience with this contest, and they expected first-timers to solve 1 problem. Therefore me and my team were very proud of ourselves to manage to solve 3. This was a great problem solving competition and would love to enter it again next year.
